Internal Radiotherapy Project Coordinator – Remote, Up to 9-Month Project

Contract: Freelance, fixed-term (up to 9 months) Day Rate: £250/day (approx. £13k total project value) Time Commitment: 1-2 days per week Location: Home-based with occasional travel Duration: Up to 9 months (Starting Feb/March 2026) Closing date: Tuesday 13th January 2026 Interview date: Wednesday 21st January 2026 Ideal start: Mid-February to early March 2025

The Organisation
Radiotherapy UK champions equitable access to radiotherapy for UK cancer patients. We produce patient information that meets rigorous quality standards – proper PIF TICK accreditation, not just nice-looking leaflets.
Small team where you'll know everyone quickly and work directly with the leadership. Established in delivering this work and working closely with partners and services nationwide. This is genuine patient-centred work.

The Project in 20 Seconds
Coordinate the creation of patient information resources on internal radiotherapy/brachytherapy for Radiotherapy UK. Work from home, lead stakeholder groups, and help produce PIF TICK accredited materials that genuinely improve patient understanding. You'll be supported by a small, experienced team who know their stuff.

What You'll Actually Do:
The coordination work (majority of your time):
• Lead Patient Engagement and Clinical Engagement Groups – bringing patients and clinicians together for proper co-production
• Coordinate content development from concept through to PIF TICK accreditation (covering brachytherapy, radionuclides, SIRT, intraoperative RT – the full internal radiotherapy picture)
• Manage multiple workstreams: content writing, illustration briefs, video production coordination, accessibility testing
• Handle stakeholder mapping, briefings, and keeping various groups aligned and moving forward
• Work with external suppliers on illustrations and video content
• Track progress for accreditation evidence and grant reporting

The stakeholder management:
• Navigate the reality of working with volunteers and busy clinical staff (on occasion could involve some evening meetings)
• Coordinate around people's availability – not everyone responds to emails in 24 hours
• Bring in collaborative partners for specialist knowledge you don't have
• Be confident and compassionate in having conversations with patients

The quality assurance:
• Ensure everything is clinically accurate, clear, and genuinely accessible
• Work with partner cancer charities and industry contacts to reflect best practice
• Develop impact measurement using logic models
• Follow PIF TICK standards (full training provided – we don't expect you to know this already)

The practical stuff:
• Manage project budget (including external illustration/video costs) and timeline
• Facilitate online meetings and virtual engagement (you'll be doing this regularly)
• Coordinate user testing sessions
• Support dissemination strategy when resources go live

Who We're Looking For
You'll fit right in if you:
• Have a professional background in radiotherapy or oncology (therapeutic radiographer, nurser, physicist, or similar)
• Understand internal radiotherapy/brachytherapy and have worked with these patient cohorts
• Have genuine patient contact experience – you know how to handle sensitive conversations
• Know what makes patient information actually useful (not just technically correct)
• Are a self-starter who can work independently without hand-holding
• Can juggle multiple stakeholders who all work at different speeds
• Like the idea of doing this for the right reasons, not just another day rate

Essential:
• Clinical background in radiotherapy/oncology
• Experience with patient contact and understanding patient needs
• Track record developing accessible health information or working in this space
• Stakeholder engagement or co-production experience
• Strong project management without needing constant supervision
• Comfortable facilitating online meetings and virtual engagement
• Available for 1-2 days/week consistently over project period.
• Can work as independent contractor/sole trader

Desirable:
• Specific experience in brachytherapy, nuclear medicine, or other internal RT modalities
• Experience with vulnerable patients in sensitive clinical situations
• Multimedia content coordination experience
• Knowledge of patient-centred design and accessibility standards
• Familiarity with PIF TICK or similar frameworks (though training provided)

Not essential but worth knowing:
• You don't need to be an expert in every internal RT modality – we will bring in partners
• You don't need to arrive knowing PIF TICK standards – Alison (our expert) will train you
• Some flexibility in scheduling is needed – not all stakeholders work 9-5

What's Actually In It For You?
The package:
• £250/day rate
• Home-based (no commute)
• 1-2 days per week – fits around other commitments if you're part-time
• Up to 9-month timeline, March-December 2025 (potentially February start if you're available)
• Work as independent contractor (paid via invoice, no PAYE)

The benefits you won't see on paper:
• Genuine impact – helping patients understand treatment when they're most vulnerable
• You won't be working in isolation – regular team contact and support
• Portfolio piece – PIF TICK accredited resources are gold standard
• Network building – work with leading clinicians, patient groups, and industry partners
• Real autonomy – you coordinate and deliver, we support and guide
• Potential for future work if you're brilliant and funding allows (patient information is a growing area for us)

The good:
• Mostly remote with very occasional travel
• Clear deliverables with up to 9-month timeline
• Working with people who genuinely care about patients.
• Small charity feel without the chaos – we have proper processes
• Part-time commitment means it can complement other work
• You'll learn PIF TICK accreditation properly (transferable skill)

The honest bit:
• Fixed-term up to 9 months – not permanent
• Working with volunteers means schedules don't always run like clockwork
• Some evening meetings will happen when coordinating busy clinical staff and patients
• You're accountable for delivery across multiple workstreams
• Payment is via invoice – you need to be registered as sole trader/limited company
• Not all stakeholders respond quickly – you'll need patience and persistence
• Co-production takes time – you can't rush proper patient engagement
• Some weeks will be busier than others (that's project work)
• Budget is fixed at £250/day for approximately 1-2 days/week

APPLICATION PROCESS
This isn't a typical charity project role. It's for someone who's worked in internal radiotherapy or brachy, understands what patients need, and wants to create resources that help people navigate difficult treatment decisions.
If you've ever thought "our patients need better information about this" – here's your chance to do something about it.
Interested candidates should submit:
• CV highlighting relevant experience
• Brief cover note explaining your interest and suitability for the role
